Deep tissue massage can be an effective tool, but more pressure isn't automatically more effective.
At Aligned Elements Bodywork, Necal Lea, LMT takes a thoughtful approach to deeper work, adjusting the session
around your body, your preferences, and what you're actually looking for.
The goal isn't to make you endure a massage.
The goal is purposeful work.

The goal is purposeful work.
Deep tissue massage uses more focused pressure and techniques to work with areas of muscular tension and restriction.
But "deep" isn't a measurement of how much discomfort you can tolerate.
Necal believes the quality of the work matters more than simply pushing harder.
That means your session can be responsive to:
Your comfort level
Areas you'd like to focus on
Your goals
Your body's response during the session
The techniques that make sense for you

Not here. Some people associate an effective deep tissue massage with pain.
Necal doesn't. You shouldn't have to grit your teeth through a session just to feel like you got your money's worth.
Instead, deep tissue work is approached as one tool within a larger bodywork practice.
Sometimes deeper pressure makes sense. Sometimes another technique is more appropriate.

A tight shoulder doesn't exist in isolation.
Neither does a sore back or a stiff neck.
Your work, movement, posture, activity level, habits, and everyday physical demands can all be part of the bigger picture.
That's why Necal starts by understanding what you're experiencing rather than immediately reaching for the deepest pressure available.
Deep tissue work may be a good fit for people who:
Prefer more focused pressure
Experience areas of muscular tension
Are physically active
Spend long hours at a desk
Have physically demanding work
Want focused bodywork as part of their self-care
Prefer a more targeted approach to their massage
Every person responds differently to pressure, so your session will still be individualized.

Necal's training includes several bodywork techniques, including:
Myofascial work
Intraoral work
Abdominal work
Core Stones Work

Depending on your needs, other techniques may be incorporated into your session.
That's one of the benefits of working with a practitioner who doesn't rely on a single routine.
Before hands-on work begins, you'll have an opportunity to discuss what you're experiencing and what you'd like from your appointment.
From there, Necal can determine how deep tissue techniques may fit into your session.
Communication remains important throughout the appointment.
If something feels too intense, speak up.
If something feels right, let her know.
Your feedback helps make the session yours.
